Three Ways To Profit From A Simple Blog

Blogs are an extremely powerful tool for earning money online

The following are three time-tested methods for doing so:

Affiliate Programs

One of the most powerful and popular means of earning from your blog is through the marriage of your blog and an affiliate program. With the proliferation of gigantic affiliate networks such as Clickbank, Commission Junction and Share-A-Sale, it has never been easier to hook your blog up to a tested seller on a large network, and start earning.

These programs are extremely lucrative. They pay from 30% to as much as 75% of the selling price of the product. They do all the work. You, as the blog owner, collect the commission for driving traffic to their sales page.

A classic technique for matching up willing buyers with affiliate products is the use of a well-written review. The review adds value to the buying experience, educating your blog’s visitor about a particular product or industry, and offering several opportunities to check it out further on the provider’s web site.

Adsense and CPA Network Publishing

A second method of profiting from your blog is to establish a relationship with a CPA or Cost Per Action network such as Google Adsense or Yahoo YPN. Using this method, you build a series of ad blocks into your blog in strategic places, such that blog consumers who are reading your posts are also observing ads that are relevant to your content. When one of them clicks on an ad, you, as the blog owner / site operator, get paid. The conventional wisdom is that this method of site monetization should not be your only income source, but one that supplements your other strategies (such as affiliate programs)

Some site building applications are so easy to implement, you simply point your mouse in the right place and type in your publisher ID and your ad publishing system goes live. Others are a simple copy and paste routine, once you choose the position on your site and which type and size of ad is appropriate.

List building

A third way of earning from your blog, and one that is quite often overlooked, is the technique of building a double opt-in mailing list, and subsequently marketing to that list. Developing a mailing list of visitors is a natural progression of events when you own a blog, because your visitors are often interested in being kept in the loop as to what you have going on. Particularly if your blog is involved in contests, giveaways, carnivals and the like, it’s important to advise your consuming public what is happening.

A logical outgrowth of this mailing list development is the marketing of products or services that are related to your blog directly through your mailing list. As the blog’s owner, you already have established a sufficient rapport with the subscriber to your list as a result of them regularly traveling to your blog. It’s not much of a stretch for you to sell to them directly.

Blogs are a powerful mechanism for communicating ideas, adding value to the Internet and building relationships with your blog’s visitors. If you design them right, and take good care of them, they can also become a lucrative and continuous source of revenue.

Maximize Your Lead Volume With Google’s Content Network

Many people shy away from Google Adwords Content Network simply because they don’t understand it or know how to effectively manage it. This article provides important tips and strategies to better equip you for success.

Campaign Organization: When setting up your campaigns there are a couple of ways to effectively organize them. One way is to have a single campaign that is enabled for both Google.com (and their search network if you so choose) and Google’s Content Network. If you decide to go this route make sure you select the option that allows you to control bids separately across both networks. My preferred method is to set up separate campaigns … one is for Google’s Search Network (AOL, Earthlink, Dogpile) and one is for Google’s Content Network. This will allow you to better control the daily / monthly spend since you can only set budget caps at the Campaign Level.

Ad Groups Inside Your Content Network Campaigns. Duplicate keywords are not an issue inside your Content Network Ad Groups. Google decides where to show your ads across their Content Network based on the Ad Group relevancy as a whole. This includes both keywords and ad copy. So, remember it this way … Google’s Content Network is NOT keyword driven - it’s relevancy driven. After all, when you see ads on another site that are Sponsored Listings from Google Adsense, you didn’t have to type in a keyword to display those ads.

Laser Target Your Content Network Ad Groups. When adding keywords in your Content Network ad groups, keep the list short and Laser Focused! Remember, Google decides where to show your ads based on the Ad Group relevancy … not based on each keyword. For example, if your business is generating leads for colleges and schools providing nursing degrees, then it makes sense to have an Ad Group in your Search Network campaigns targeting keywords such as “nursing jobs” or “nurse salary”. But, for the Content Network, those keywords should not be in your Ad Group because this give Google the option to show your ads on medical job boards, resume writing sites and other non relevant sites. For the Content Network Ad Groups it’s best to keep your keywords laser focused - in Exact Match format - targeting your specific niche … like [nursing degree] [nursing degrees] [nursing school] [nursing schools] [cna degree] etc.

Placement Reports. Monitor your Content Network performance by pulling Placement Reports inside Google’s Reporting interface. When you receive enough data to start crunching useful stats, find the Domains that are driving quality / converting traffic to your site.

Site Match Campaigns. Set up Site Match campaigns targeting the Domains you identified in your Placement Reports and allocate your budgets accordingly. (Don’t forget to add these domains to your Excluded Domain list for your Content Network Campaigns). Here’s a tip - when crunching your data to determine which sites you want to add to your Site Match campaign, calculate your Avg. Cost p/ Impression for that site to start off your Site Match CPM Bid. After you start receiving conversion data from each site match site you can then dial in your CPM Bids to achieve your CPA (Cost Per Acquisition) target.

Making Real Money with AdSense

Many internet savvy people focus on the tremendous opportunities in dropshipping, affiliate marketing, and SEO, but totally neglect the revenue stream that they could be cashing in on: Google AdSense. Google AdSense has been around for a while now but many people are still using AdSense as a principal source of income. In fact, AdSense has probably created more online millionaires than any other online revenue opportunity.

What is Google AdSense?
Google AdSense ads are those rectangular ads that you’ve seen on virtually every webpage you’ve visited. If placed correctly, you hardly notice that they’re even there. A skilled AdSense integrator will effectively “weave” their ads into their website content to increase clicks. Using AdSense as a revenue stream can be more profitable than any other online venture. In fact, many people who have put AdSense ads on their affiliate landing pages soon began to discover that they were actually making more money on AdSense clicks than they were on their affiliate conversions. The main reason for this is simple: Clicking on a Google Ad cost nothing. Nadda. Zippo. But if it’s your ad that is clicked on, you earn anywhere from $0.10 to $3.00 for each click. Can you begin to understand how you can profit from Google AdSense?

How Do I Earn with AdSense?
Earning with AdSense is simple. Just go to Google.com/AdSense and sign up for your FREE account. After you’ve got your free account, you’ll need a webpage to put your new AdSense ads on. Once your get your webpage up and running with your new ads on it, all you must do is effectively market your page so that you get visitors. In order for you to be successful at ANY internet based business, you will require traffic. Find a way to get a few 1,000 visitors to your site every day, and you’ll be rich by year’s end.

So How Do I Get Started?
A lot of bloggers on the internet will tell you what you must do and give you a vague description of how to go about it, but I’ll tell you, detail for detail, how to start a profitable AdSense business. To start a good AdSense campaign, you’ll need to group together many good keywords. Keep away from the keywords that are very competitive, such as “work-at-home”, “online business”, “jobs”, etc., etc. The key to succeeding in an AdSense business is to find a niche that is off the beaten path. Take “Golf Carts” for instance. Keywords associated with golf and golf clubs are very competitive, but golf carts - not so. So, find some odd keywords that are not very competitive and weave some context around them.

Now that you’ve got keywords, you’ll need a webpage. Don’t have a webpage? O.K., you’ll need a doman and a basic hosting package (about $8/month), go HERE to find a good, inexpensive host to get started. Pick the one that suits you and get an inexpensive account. Now…publish your AdSense site and submit your page to the search engines. You must get your site spidered by the Googlebot before you’ll get on Google - which is where you want to be. The fastest way to get your site spidered by Google is to put your link on a webpage that is already being spidered by Google. Once you regularly get crawled by the Googlebot, you can make adjustments to your page to increase your page rank. Once you start getting traffic, your clicks, and therefore your profits, will start to climb. Once you begin getting some regular traffic, your new revenue stream will be almost FREE. Now, repeat this about a dozen times (or a few hundred times) and you’ll be making some serious cash.

If you require a little direction with your AdSense sites, then I suggest checking out one of our AdSense Resources, which will show you the smart ways to start an AdSense campaign. Good luck and much success!

Three Title Tips for YouTube Video

Why would one lipstick video get thousands more views than another lipstick video? Could it be the words “luscious lips” in the title? Why would one sewing video get thousands more views than another? Could it be the words “how to” in the title?

Welcome to the ever growing competition of video marketing on the internet. After you make your video and upload it, you’ll be able to track your number of views. If users like your video, they’ll comment on it, add it to their favorites, and subscribe to your channel or blog. But how can you get your video in front of them so that they know how great it is and do all those actions? Enter the skill of weaving a title for your video.

Take some time to do some keyword research on popular keyword tools such as Wordtracker.com and SEO Book Keyword Suggestion Tool. Both have free tools that can help you find exactly the right words that people are using to find the subject of your video. Keep a spreadsheet of this information for yourself, as it will include keywords that will give you more ideas for future videos.

Now, search your favorite video sharing sites, such as YouTube.com, and look at the search results. Which videos had more views? Which had less views? While it is not solely based on titles, you will notice that there are patterns to what videos in a given keyword search get the most views.

Here are your three tips to writing your video title:

  1. Use your keywords — If your video is about sushi, make sure it says so in your title.
  2. Use adjectives to spice it up. If your sushi is easy and delicious, say so in your title. Remember, you have to get someone’s attention with that title.
  3. Experiment. Not getting views? Go into your video sharing account and edit the video title. Add a “How to” or change the order of the words in your title. See what gets more views.

Besides the title, you will want to pay attention to the description or summary, as the text is what brings in searches at first. Then as your comments, ratings, and other Web2.0 indicators rise, your video will rise to the top of the video search results.

Make sure your video is good quality, interesting, and gives your viewers what you promise. Promise it in your title. Robin Brown makes video sewing tutorials.

All Roads Lead to Congestion - Weighing in on Universal Search, Part II

With Google’s new universal search being rolled out the concept of “top search engine rankings” changes dramatically. On one hand a first page ranking is much more difficult to achieve, and on the other, there are now more ways in which to achieve a first page ranking.

Here is a quick rundown of possible results that could appear on the first page of a Google search:

  • images
  • video
  • news
  • maps / local results
  • blogs
  • books
  • products
  • groups
  • patents
  • scholarly works

If the #1 result for each of those vertical searches appeared on the first page of a search all other results that otherwise would have appeared would be squeezed out of the first page. OK, most of those vertical results won’t make first page placement, I think Google is adding up to three, perhaps four of these verticals into their universal search. So let’s say a typical search that you’ve been ranking on the first page for is now showing “universal” results for images, news, and video. Chances are good that your ranking has been bumped off the first page, or at least moved down significantly.

That’s not a happy place to be. Unless, of course, that it’s your video, news, or image results that appear. But in terms of ROI those really are not the type of results that bring significant conversions. On the other hand, maybe it is your video, news AND image results that appear. Now you got multiple first page rankings, right? Naw. Now we’re just living in fantasy land because I’m certain Google won’t let one site achieve multiple first page placements that way.

Changing the way search works

So how does that change the ranking landscape? It means that achieving first page status has just gotten considerably more difficult for standard search results. In stead of competing with ten other pages, you’re now competing with six or seven for first page placement. The competition just got more fierce.

If you feel that getting your image, news or video ranked is worthwhile then you’ll need to start now by investing additional dollars into those avenues, or supplementing traditional optimization with optimization of those other areas, and hope the payoff is just as significant. I doubt it will be, but it doesn’t hurt to know your options. Google’s Vanessa Fox posted some ways to take advantage of these other verticals that are popping into your search results:

Google News results
If your site includes news content, you can, submit your site for inclusion in Google News. Once your site is included, you can let us know about your latest articles by submitting a News Sitemap. (Note News Sitemaps are currently available for English sites only.)

News Archive results
If you have historical news content (available for free or by subscription), you can submit it for inclusion in News Archive Search.

Image results
If your site includes images, you can opt-in to enhanced Image search in webmaster tools, which will enable us to gather additional metadata about your images using our Image Labeler. This helps us return your images for the most relevant queries. Also ensure that you are fully taking advantage of the images on your site.

Local results
If your site is for a business in a particular geographic location, you can provide information to us using our Local Business Center. By providing this information, you can help us provide the best, locally relevant results to searchers both in web search and on Google Maps.

Video results
If you have video content, you can host it on Google Video, YouTube, or a number of other video hosting providers. If the video is a relevant result for the query, searchers can play the video directly from the search results page (for Google Video and YouTube) or can view a thumbnail of the video then click over to the player for other hosting providers. You can easily upload videos to Google Video or to YouTube.

How all this will play out over the coming months and years remains to be seen. Will SEOs now need to optimize a page, an image, a news article and a video for the same keyword phrases, hoping one of them will make it to the first page? Will people be more willing to settle for top five pages rather than top two or one? Will the top ranking race become a thing of the past or heat up even more? What do you think?

Is Unlimited Hosting Really Unlimited, Or Just Intended To Get Customers Hooked?

As shared Web hosting becomes more and more competitive, more providers are offering what are called “unlimited” hosting plans. Usually, you’re offered unlimited e-mail accounts, add-on domains, bandwidth, disk space, MySQL databases, and other features.

However, is this really true, or just something intended to hook you in and then make you pay more? Indeed, many hosting experts say that unlimited plans are just a hoax and that no hosting package will truly be unlimited. Let’s take a look at some of the advantages and disadvantages of unlimited hosting.

Among the most contentious elements of unlimited hosting are disk space and bandwidth. There is no such thing as unlimited hard disk space, right? Yes, that’s true, but most provide unlimited disk base by using a number of servers, so that when one disk becomes full, they just add another server or hard disk. Theoretically, they can simply keep adding hard disks as the need to and thus provide truly unlimited disk space. This is, in fact, the way every hosting provider does it, whether they are “unlimited” or not. The same is true of bandwidth. When a particular hosting company’s bandwidth allowance is almost full, they buy more from the provider they use.

In theory, then, yes, it’s true. Hosting providers truly can provide unlimited bandwidth and disk space, assuming they keep adding resources as they need to. However, many critics of unlimited hosting say that no hosting company can keep acquiring more resources without end because it’s just not economically feasible. Now, this is certainly true if a hosting company’s customer base were invariably using literally hundreds of gigabytes of disk space and bandwidth. However, most customers only use a few megabytes. This, then, is why hosting companies can function. In effect, they risk the assumption that all but 1% of their customers will use just a small amount of their server’s capacity.

The next question to ask is how the hosting company will handle that 1% of customers who do use a huge amount of resources in bandwidth and disk space. This is entirely at their discretion and depends on what their own “fair use” policies are. In fact, they will likely suspend customers who greatly strain their system’s resources. Therefore, if you happen to be among that 1% of customers who truly would use “unlimited” resources, then yes, it’s a myth. You simply cannot get “unlimited” resources from a particular hosting company. However, if, again, you’re among the 99% of customers who don’t use a huge amount of resources, then it’s true that the hosting company can provide “unlimited” resources, meaning that you will never exceed the capacity they have to provide you the services you need.

If, you are someone who has vast capacity needs in bandwidth and disk space, then it’s probably best that you use a dedicated server. However, if you are among the vast majority who will not strain the hosting company’s ability to provide resources, an unlimited package may be for you, not least because there are also many additional features offered you that you may find useful.

As an example, let’s say that you have a lot of domains and that each needs its own web site. Each individual web site is not going to take up a lot of disk space, so this will not place a strain on your hosting service and you will not be in danger of being suspended. In addition, you’ll be able to take advantage of the unlimited features offered, such as MySQL databases, autoresponders, e-mail boxes, and add-on domains. If each domain has a web site of average size, your account will not be in danger of being suspended.

So although it’s true that for a very few people, “unlimited” Web hosting packages do not really exist and are a myth, for the vast majority of customers, they are, indeed, a real offering. If you are among the 1% who would likely strain a hosting company’s resources and put yourself in danger of getting your account suspended, then it’s probably best that you opt for a dedicated server instead.

How to Set up Your Google AdWords Account?

As you may or not know, Google Adwords is now one of the fastest growing advertising formats that you will come across. Whether your a small local company or a world trader, You are just steps away from creating a ton of traffic to your website. First of all, let me just quickly explain what Google Adwords is - for those of you that don’t know.

Adwords is Googles version of an advertising campaign. Basically put, Google is allowing you to advertise on their website. This means that you will have access to some of the multi millions of visitors that are searching on Google on a daily basis. Which could mean thousand of hits to your website.

Why Google AdWords?

One of the main reason that Google AdWords is so popular is quite simply the way it is structured. Instead of traditional advertising, where you pay for your ad no matter what. Google AdWords allows you to ONLY PAY when a visitor clicks on your ad and comes to your website. This is the same as your advertising magazine only charging you when a reader gets in contact with you. This is very powerful stuff. It is know as Pay Per Click Advertising.

How to Set up Your Google AdWords Account.

Ok, First of all you will need to go to Google website: http://adwords.google.com. Once you have loaded the screen, look for a button that says - Sign Up Now or Try Adwords Now. Once clicked you will be taken to a page that asks you whether you want to set up a ‘Starter Edition’ or a ‘Standard Edition’, I personally have never used the Starter Edition. Basically, the Starter Edition is only for complete beginners. You will need to upgrade to the Standard Edition sooner or later, so why not sign up now. I’m going to take you through the Standard Edition signup.

Once inside, you will be asked to select your language, this will determine the language of the text that you will be reading. Then you will be prompted to choose your target location. This section is going to depend on your business. Lets break these down.

Countries and territories

- Your ads will appear for searches made anywhere in the selected locations.

Regions and cities

- Your ads will appear for searches made in the regions and cities you choose. (Not available in all locations.)

Customised

- Your ads will appear for searches made within a specific distance from your business or other location you choose.

So, unless you want to target your, you will select Countries & territories. Other wise, choose an option that will only show your ad in targeted area. I normally choose Countries & territories as this will get me the most amount of explosure.

The following page will ask you which countries you want your ad to appear in. This is very important, as it allows you to chose which targeted countries you want to promote to. For most of my products, I always select - UK, America, Canada, Australia & New Zealand. You can select which ever countries are best suited to you. Simple high light the country that you want, click the ‘Add’ button. Once you have selected all of your countries, simply click ‘Continue’.

Writing Your Ad:

Ok, now we start getting into the heart of the campaign, we can start writing our ads. This part is so easy to do, yet is has one of the biggest impacts on your campaign. Do this right, and you will gain massive rewards, Do this wrong, and it will cost you dig time!

Headline:

Make you headline stand out from the other adds. It must get the readers attention.

Description Line 1:

This line normally works best as a benefit line. What are the benefits of your products or service?

Description Line 2:

Create a sense of urgency! this should be a call to action line. Get them to click onto your ad.

Display URL:

This is the URL of your website. How ever, you do not need to add the www. And you can also add capitalization to the first letter of each word.

EXAMPLE:

www.articlereader.com - can become - ArticleReader.com

Destination URL:

This is the full URL of your website address.

EXAMPLE:

www.articlereader.com

Adding Your Keywords:

Your Keywords are the word that you want your ad to on appear when typed in. So, for example: If I’m promoting a free ebook give away, then I would want to bid on Keyphrase such as:

- Ebook

- Free Ebook Giveaway

- E- Book

- E book

As you can see, I’m bidding on different variation of the same word. This is because, you don’t know exactly what a user is going to type in to the search engines. There four, you want to cover all related keywords.

This page also offer you a chance to find more keywords. Simply type your main key phrase into the ‘Want More’ text field, click search and hey presto, You have a new list of keyphrase that you can use. Your keyphrase should be targeted to your product or service.

Choosing Your Price:

One last section to complete then were done. There are three sections to this area, each of which are all based around the amount and currency of your advertising.

Choose a currency:

This is straight forward - simply select the currency of your country from the drop down menu.

Average Spend a day:

How much would you like to spend on a daily basis? I always set this to £1,000. Don’t worry, you will never spend this much. But by setting a high daily spend, it will ensure that your ad is show through out the day. You then control the cost via the keyword bid amount.

Keyword Bid Amount:

Select how much you want to pay. Basically, what is the maximum that you want to pay for one click? This amount should be worked out based on your profit margins. The more profit that you have, the more you can afford to pay. However, a good starting point for most people is between £0.50 & £1.00. This however, will decrease if you can create a high Click Through Rate for your AdGroups. Check out my resource box below for more on CTR, and how to master your campaign.

Well Done!

Thats it, the next step just asks you to confirm your details, then give your account information over. Remember, you will be charged £5.00 to set you account, so have your credit card ready.

Good Luck! :-)

Secret of the Google Search Bar

There are many ways to generate additional website traffic and potentially additional income as well, but I think the most useful way is to include a Google search bar on your website. Providing a Google search bar can be a great compliment to an existing Google AdSense revenue stream, and it can provide additional “stickiness” as well. This stickiness is a great way to keep visitors to your website there long enough to see what you, and your advertisers, have to offer.

The ability to keep the attention of casual website visitors is one of the most critical factors to the success of any web based business. Studies have shown that the majority of website visitors get an impression of a website within a matter of seconds, and they may click away just as fast if they do not like what they see.

A prominently displayed Google search bar provides a familiar item on which those visitors can focus their attention during those crucial first few seconds on your website.

In addition to its ability to retain the attention of website visitors, the Google search bar is able to appeal to a wide variety of internet users. No matter what subject these visitors are interested in, chances are good that they will be able to find what they need on the Google search bar. This wide reach allows website visitors to quickly and easily find the information they need, while enhancing the usefulness and user friendliness of the website on which the search bar appears.

Search Engine Marketing - Helping Your Local Business Acquire New Customers

Are you a local business owner? Whether you run a grocery store, a clothing store, a jewelry store, or even a tax preparation service, there is a good chance that the majority of your marketing is focused on your local community. Although local advertising is a necessity, there is something that you may not know. Your local community is likely turning to the internet to research their options for buying products and services, even locally. That is why you may want to think about incorporating search engine marketing into your businessâ??s local advertising plan.

As it was previously mentioned, a large number of individuals are now turning to the internet to research local companies that they may be interested in doing business with. That is why it is advised that all locally owned and operated businesses, even small businesses, use search engine marketing to their advantage. Unfortunately, many business owners do not realize just how many of their prospective customers are using the internet. There are many who assume that it isnâ??t enough to change their marketing plans. However, did you know that Nielsen//NetRatings performed a study that showed out of 2,866 individuals, 70% of those individuals had used the internet to research local businesses?

When you think about it, that number is pretty amazing. That means that a large number of individuals are now starting to change the way that they shop locally. In the past, many individuals relied on coming across a business own their own or hearing about a business through word of mouth. While these approaches are still used, it is plain to see that many more individuals are now starting to do their own research online. One of the many reasons for that is because it is easy. A simple standard internet search, also known as a local search, and your prospective customers could easily find out information about you and your company, including your business telephone number, your address, as well as information on what type of business you run.

One of the best ways to make the most out of search engine marketing is to have you own online website. One of the best ways to acquire new customers is have a website filled with information about your company. For instance, if you sell products or services, you will want to describe them and so forth. Perhaps, the most important piece of information to have on your website is your businessâ??s telephone number and possibly even a business email address. Another study, conducted by WebVisible showed that 68% of prospective clients contacted a company using the telephone number they got off the companyâ??s website. Although not as popular, 16% contacted the company in question by sending them an email.

As you can see, the internet plays an important role in your business and it has actually been doing so for a while now, even if you didnâ??t realize it. That is why it is advised that you incorporate the internet and search engine marketing into your local advertising plan, if you havenâ??t already done so.
