How to Grow a Business by Using a Marketing Plan

If you want to grow your business into a successful one, you require patience as well as an understanding of your customers. You also require the knowledge to create a strong marketing plan that is quite unique to the product you have to offer or the service that you render. Getting attention from any potential clients can be the difference between a business that manages to survive and a business that succeeds.

Marketing is a term that is often used at the same time the word advertising is used. However it is more than just that. Advertising focuses on selling a product while a great marketing plan sets your business in a different league from the rest. It also positions you as an industry leader that everyone turns to. Marketing isn’t simply about selling; it’s a perfect way to create long term relationships with clients so you can have an environment that entices future business.

Understanding Your Clients/Customers:

Statistics have shown that 80% of most sales that businesses make usually come from just 20% of the customer client base. In order to increase the results that you get from this 20% of your customer base, you have to get out and try to understand these customers better. Research is absolutely essential whenever you’re marketing to existing customers. Some things that you need to know before you try implementing a new marketing strategy include:

-Who your current clients are

-What your clients needs are

-Why they use your product or service

-When they use your product or service

-Why they buy your product and service

-How your product or service can better benefits both your existing customers, as well as future clients

Getting To Know Your Competition:

Regardless of the business that you’re in, someone else with a much similar business is always somewhere around trying to make themselves the option of choice in your market. Customers can be very fickle, if they think they can get a better deal elsewhere, they’ll definitely jump ship. If you want to prevent losing your customers to your new and existing competitors you should keep a close eye on the industry and know who the new people in your market are. You should take the time to look out for any promotions and marketing schemes that might take away your customer base.

Find A Market Niche:

Customers are always looking for something that is new and entirely different. They may want to continue their use of your product or service due to its quality or its availability. Never take customer loyalty as a granted factor; you should always take the time out to look for better prices, special offers and much more selection. This will also include virtually anything that will interest people into ordering your products and services over and again.

Niche marketing is a great way to keep any customers that you have and gain newer customers from word of mouth advertising. Some businesses are known for great prices while others charge more but provide a higher level of quality. What is your own business really known for? If your answer to this question is nothing, then you should start your marketing plan from this standpoint.

An Affordable Website Hosting Plan - How To Be Sure You Are Satisfied

An affordable website hosting plan is probably the main way in which many people manage to get their own website. Although there are now some very good low cost hosting options available there are certain areas that you should be sure to check out before signing up with any hosting company.

CHEAPEST AIN’T BEST

It may be tempting, it may seem like a great idea, but don’t let price be the object what ultimately sways you. There are now so many hosting companies that allow you to get hosting services for a low fee that you, the potential webmaster, are now in the driving seat. In other words look around, one company may be a dollar or two more expensive but they may offer far more value in their packages. Basically what I’m trying to say is look at the full picture and not just the price.

HOW MANY SITES DO YOU WANT

If you only ever plan on having one site then skip ahead but for those that plan on having multiple sites read on. Finding a service that allows multiple domains on the one account is something you MUST look for. Trust me, this will save you a fortune. Paying $5 or so a month for each site you have no longer needs to be the norm so don’t allow it to be. Many an affordable website hosting plan now comes with multi domain hosting so make sure the company you are thinking of joining are one of them because if they aren’t you are better off moving along and finding one that does.

GET THE FEATURES AND BONUSES YOU NEED

If you are technically inept make sure to get a free site builder or Fantastico included in the features. If you need unlimited email accounts then find a hosting service that provides them. Do you want some help promoting your site? Then get some free ad vouchers. Whatever you feel you need included in your service if you look around I have no doubt you will find it.

PAY NO ATTENTION TO BANDWIDTH

O.k maybe not no attention but it shouldn’t be a major concern. Very few webmasters use anything more than 10-20% of the bandwidth they are given so as great as it sounds when you see sites offering unlimited bandwidth the truth is you won’t need it anyway.

An affordable website hosting plan can be found to meet almost anyones needs if you simply take the time over your decision. Get the hosting service that is right for you rather than being lured by promises of unlimited bandwidth or by the cheapest provider.

Google SEO Link Building for Higher Search Engine Ranking

You may have asked the question, “How can I improve my site’s ranking in Google?”

Well, here is the answer from the Google Webmaster Help Center:

“In general, webmasters can improve the rank of their sites by increasing the number of high-quality sites that link to their pages.”

By using a systematic approach, you’ll have sites linking to you in no time.

Let??s call our approach “FARMing” for links and break it down in steps…

F for Find

In the Google search box, type in the keyword you want to improve your rank on and with the sites that show up on the top ten, find out who links to them by using the “link:” (without quotes) command before their URLs. Each of these sites can be your potential link partners. With this list of sites, you can take the next step?

A for Analyze

Evaluate the quality of the sites you found in the previous step. See if their topic is similar to yours. Find out if their Alexa ranking suggests it can deliver traffic. If getting Page Rank from your link is important, look for sites that don’t have too many competing outbound links. Scan their page for any keyword phrases you are targeting. If everything looks good, go to the next step?

R for Request

Place their link on your link page first and then send a well-written email asking each webmaster if they would like to exchange links. It’s easier to get a link from a site that already has a link page or provides a web form to fill in your website information.

M for Monitor

Once you get your links on other sites, you need to make sure they stay there. Some sites change owners, so every once in awhile check that the content is still similar to your own site. Other times sites shutdown and you need to remove those dead links from your own link page.

Having your links on high-quality sites are free and “permanent.” Usually webmasters will leave your link alone after they have added it to their link page. You will continue to receive traffic from those links years later. Therefore, finding sites for a link exchange following the steps in the FARM approach is a good investment for your time and effort.

Write for Humans, Design for Search Engines

Search engine is all about content and every SEO gurus have been trying very hard to optimize their pages just for the search engine and often forgetting that the end user is actually the human reader. It is of paramount importance that a page has to be written for humans and designed for search engines in terms of SEO.

There is nothing more important than creating unique content for a site. In SEO, allocating keywords in the title, header and bold HTML tags not only helps the reader to identify the topic of a page easily but it also aids in optimization since search engine takes into consideration of the keywords in these tags.

Many writers are concerned about the perfect keyword density for the maximum benefit of SEO. Unfortunately, there are no hard figures for a perfect keyword percentage. The most important factor when creating content is to make it readable and unique. As long as the content is readable, there is no need to follow a set percentage of keyword density.

Designing a page to facilitate the indexing by the search engine bots is another important factor to consider next to content creation. A page with rich content without indexed by the search engine bots is equivalent to no content at all. To help the search engines to find the page, the navigation system and sitemap plays important roles here. It is advisable to have text links navigation so that bots can spider all the internal pages smoothly. Avoid using JavaScript and Flash made navigation system because most bots will ignore them but designer can always include a set of text links at the bottom of the page where these kinds of navigation system are used to overcome this issue.

Some search engines place great emphasis on the content near the top of a page. Therefore, it is advisable to design the layout in such a way that the content appears before other parts of the page. One example is to use the content first CSS template; it allows the navigation to appear on the left of a page followed by the content but the content is the first to appear in the codes. This method helps search engine bots to identify the important content of a page and index them since they are placed near the top of a page. Another easy work around is to employ a right side navigation menu.

The ultimate purpose of SEO is to make sure that the designated content appears in search engine according to the specific searches. Making the content readable and designing the page for easy indexing should always be the first priority for webmasters when SEO comes into play.

The New Network Marketing That Is Taking The Business World By Storm

Are You Sharing In The Wealth?

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Holly Beitel and I am a CPA and business consultant who has studied network marketing as a business model. That is truly what network marketing is: a business model. A highly effective and efficient business model!

Network Marketing is a method of moving products and services from the manufacturer to the end consumer through the most powerful method of advertisement ever employed?word of mouth advertising.

If you are familiar with the difference between pyramid schemes and true network marketing, then you know that pyramid schemes have been illegal for many years. You are probably also familiar with the practices of some of the giants in Network Marketing over the last 20 years. Let??s see. You have visions of garages full of product, three-way calling, the three-foot rule, etc. All of these techniques have proved ineffective for 98% of network marketers. These dismal results are not a fault of the model itself. It is a result of the techniques used to employ it.

I??d like to spend a little time explaining the fundamentals of Network Marketing, and reveal why it is NOW creating more millionaires than any other industry.

Look at the traditional model of distribution. Did you know that a can of soda costs about 10 cents to manufacture? However, by the time it is dispensed from a vending machine it costs the consumer $1. Why is that? Well, you have to pay for manufacturing, packaging, warehousing, advertising, stocking, etc. The overhead costs are crushing.

The distribution chain in Network Marketing is manufacturer to end consumer. Done. The money that was wasted in the traditional model now goes to two very valuable places. The first is to YOU the distributor, and the second is to product R&D and technology! This ensures that the products and services are cutting-edge, and those doing the work are getting paid generously.

Don??t let anyone get away with the objection that they just don??t agree with the ??Network Marketing thing.? Next time ask them what it is they don??t agree with: bringing products and services to the marketplace in the most efficient way possible, moving up in a company because you work the hardest and help the most people or allowing everyone an equal opportunity to achieve freedom of time and financial independence? Where else can you find a vehicle that offers you the opportunity to be one in the 1% who retires wealthy in this country?

Success Magazine says that Network Marketing is the??Most powerful way to reach the consumer.? There are Fortune 500 companies who are currently using this distribution method to get some or all of their products to marketplace. Big names like: Gillette, Colgate-Palmolive, Sharp, Texas Instruments, Microsoft, IBM and Coca-Cola to name a few. We haven??t begun to see the real potential of Network Marketing.

NOW, let me ask you?are YOU accumulating the wealth that this business model generously offers? I know for a fact that 9 out of 10 of you reading this article are not! Why? Mainly because the biggest misconception about the network marketing industry is that the key to making it work is simply doing things like ??get 3 who will get 3?? That misconception will keep you in your day job forever. You will be left in the wake of this new wave surrounded by a calamity of fliers, promotional materials and business cards.

The key to success in Network Marketing is less tangible. It begins with understanding people, the psychology of consumer wants/needs/desires, creating the urgency to buy and most importantly?figuring out you. You might have the perfect product and the most lucrative compensation plan around. However, if you don??t have the perfect message, the message that results in the CONSUMPTION of your product or service? No one earns anything.

The fact is only a very small percentage of marketers can do these things without training, and they all attended the ??school of hard knocks? learning the hard way. I don??t mean training on how to do three-way calling or to explain the compensation plan. I mean training on how to reach the very consumers who have a want, need or desire for your particular product or service. Explanation of how to identify, isolate and overcome their ??perceived? objections. And, how to create the urgency to buy and ultimately to consume the very thing they truly need or desire.

The truth is that the things you need to do are very simple. The reason 9 out of 10 of you reading this aren??t doing them is because to figure it all out on your own is virtually impossible. By the time you can get enough scars and personal experience to figure some of these things out, you have long since become discouraged and run out of financial resources.

Most likely, you are receiving some form of ??training? from your upline. The problem is that they still have to focus on continuing to build their own organization as well, and most of the time they are only a few steps ahead of you in the game.

Now that the general business community is acknowledging and implementing the model of Network Marketing, we are seeing smarter, more effective education and training in the industry. The best training, of course, is personalized, interactive training done by those who have tried, tested and perfected the skills and techniques necessary for success in Network Marketing.

I highly encourage those of you who want to ride the wave and momentum that Network Marketing is generating to find and invest in such training. Yes, I said invest. Find a resource that has walked the ??trail of tears? already. Find someone who has the experience to help you shrink your learning curve, and someone who has recreated their success over and over in multiple arenas. Your future in Network Marketing hangs in the balance.

Network Marketing is an ingenious business model. One that works without fail when properly approached and implemented! You are already in the water. Equip yourself to ??ride the wave? to success in your business.

Pay Per Action Takes Over Pay Per Click

This September Google officially introduced the new wave of SEM (Search Engine Marketing). There has been much said about this new feature known to Adwords users as the “conversion optimizer feature”. Previously Google have been using a straight forward Pay Per Click (PPC) system, which they themselves created. PPC ads, also known as sponsored links, are found on a search engine’s search results. For instance, when you go to google and type in San Diego Website Design, numerous sections of search results are on the screen. At the very top of the screen there is a map with business listing. This list is a service for those businesses that have accounts with Google. Below that is a list beginning with Appeal Media’s Listing (shameless plug!). These are known as organic listings. Advertisers can not pay to be listed organically. It is a very complex system which is based on parameters such as relevancy and popularity. On the right hand side of the screen are the sponsored links. Sponsored links (PPC) are not listings, but clever advertisements that are being paid for.

The Pay Per system works on keywords. Keywords are the words people actually type in the search engine to look, such as San Diego Website Design. This would technically be a keyword phrase; San Diego, Website, and Design. The advertisers will competitively bid on keywords with their competition. This type of advertising takes constant maintenance as the cost of keyword rise and rise. The magnanimous techies at Google saw the problems popping up, such as inflation, with the once golden PPC system and decided to evolve. Other problems noted are ad clutter and fraud. PPC is currently plagued with issues as it comes down from its peak. This situation had to be remedied for the sake of the discontented advertisers and anxious publishers. The solution is PPA.

PPA ( Pay Per Acquisition or Pay Per Action) is a new type of advertising online that is conversion specific and garnering global support from advertisers. As usual, Google has broken ground on this and is offering it to their current Adwords Advertisers as an option for their existing account. E-bay is also doing something similiar with their advertising. There are a lot of fancy words to explain something so simple. Broken down into layman’s terms it is not so daunting.

Showdown : PPA vs. PPC

* Pay Per Click advertisers pay per impression or click. (Not necessarily results driven)

* Pay Per Action advertisers pay only when an “actionable task” happens.

o An actionable task is something you want to get from your cutomers to benefit and/or grow your business. Google Adwords lists action options as purchase/sale, lead (new contact), sign-up (subscription), views of keypage, and ‘other’ (be creative).

* PPC rates based on keywords rate. Keyword rates have risen with the surge of online business competetion. And then you still have to rely on yourself for conversions!

* PPA rates are based on actions that directly benefit your business. Prices are not unreasonable for small to mid-size businesses.

* PPC cost risk is on the advertiser.

* PPA cost risk is on the ad publisher.

It would be highly beneficial as an advertiser to jump on the bandwagon with this latest and greatest care of Google. It is a rare thing for a publisher to put their money where their mouth is and garner the brunt of a possible loss. Iit is unlikely that a loss would happen for Google or Ebay with their quantum growth patterns. This is still a one of a kind opportunity for businesses to get the most bang for your buck and not to stress as much about return on investment.

Content the Heart and Soul of a Webpage

Website Content Guidelines

Writing content for the web varies greatly from writing for a newspaper or magazine. The following guidelines are geared to the Internet and the visitors who will be reading your website content. Also, these tips for good text layout and structure will enhance your chances of being indexed by the search engines.

1) Use shorter sentences, words and paragraphs than you would use when writing for print.

2) Develop one idea in each paragraph of your copy.

3) Create compact and brief text. Try to write your content in half the number of words you would use normally for a printed document.

4) Use simple words and phrases to make reading easy.

5) Incorporate numbered or bulleted lists when appropriate.

6) Highlight important text (e.g. make it bold, colored or use hyperlinks) to make it easy to scan.

7) Employ descriptive and brief headlines and subheadings. This will help to optimize your webpage content for the search engine spiders.

User Friendly Content

People read one quarter more slowly on the web than when they read printed material. Computer screens tire the eyes quickly and visitors tend to scan text more than they would items in printed documents. This is the reason that your paragraphs should be short and concise. Use half the words that you would normally use when composing printed text.

Content Scanability

Write and layout your content in an easy to scan format. Think of how you read a webpage and you will understand the importance of using scanability elements in your work. Use bold or colored headers and lead-ins for blocks of text so that the main points stick out like a sore thumb. The Web is not a place to be subtle. Scanability elements like these are picked up by search engine spiders and help your efforts at optimizing your website.

Content Presentation

People who surf the Web are usually short on patience. They want to find the information they are seeking quickly and without wading through a mass of text. Obscure and complicated text is not viewed favorably by the average website visitor or search engine spiders. Keep you text in blocks that can be scanned easily. Use white space to isolate these blocks of information from adjoining copy.

Visitors will leave your website if they can’t find what they are looking for quickly. You must attract their attention and maintain their interest if you want to have a successful Internet presence. You will have about 10 seconds to grab a visitors interest and a little less than a minute to maintain that interest. Avoid the pitfalls associated with your own self interests and give your readers what they want. Optimize your content for your visitors.

Content Layout

This list covers the important aspects of content layout:

A) Put the most important information at the top of your webpage.

B) Make it simple to comprehend and avoid boring, hard to digest dialogues.

C) Try to combat reader fatigue by using an easy to read font size and style.

D) Present each idea in an easy to absorb bite-size chunk. Use short sentences, short paragraphs and present only one idea per paragraph. Avoid information overload.

E) Write meaningful headlines and subheadings. Cute or promotional lines in your text mean that your visitors will have more to read and will find it harder to understand your content.

Attraction marketing is basically getting prospects to come to you instead of you chasing them. At the core of attraction marketing is the belief that people love to buy, but hate to be sold to.

The Basics of Advertising Effectively Online

By now you should know that advertising and marketing are two different things.

In this article, when I talk about advertising, I’m only talking about the copy you use to generate traffic to your web site, whether it be banner ads, text ads, or any other kind of advertising.

Pay-per-click advertising offers even someone new to Internet marketing a chance to test the waters and learn what works, and it can be done inexpensively at first, with a completely controlled budget. That’s nice for most people to hear, that you can put a cap on what you spend on advertising, and see the results as you go so you know what’s working for you and what’s not.

Here are the basics…

If you are advertising to a laser-targeted group of people, such as with search-based PPC advertising (like Google AdWords), you want your ad copy to be very specific and to closely match the content of the page you are sending people to when they click.

The reason for that is, you don’t want to pay for unqualified clicks, meaning - people who are unlikely to buy, signup or whatever you’re trying to achieve with the traffic. The more information you can give in your ad about what you’re offering, the more you can narrow down WHO clicks on your ads. That way you’re not paying for people to click your ad unless they are very good prospects for what you’re offering.

I’ve even gone so far as to include the price of my product in the actual ad.

With content networks (yes, Google has one of these too), you shouldn’t pay quite as much per click, bid about half of what you would pay for a search generated click. People on content pages might click your ad because it interests them, but they didn’t originate as being someone who was already searching for one of your keywords, so their value as a prospect is somewhat lower.

When you are advertising to a broader audience and paying by the impression (CPM = cost per 1000 views of your ad), your ad needs to appeal to a broader audience. It should not include specifics and it helps if it’s even a little edgy or controversial. Why? Because with CPM advertising, you’re not paying for the clicks, you’re paying for the views. You WANT as many people as possible to click on it, and since almost all CPM advertising is placed on content sites and is not search-based, having an edgy or eye-catching ad headline can help draw attention away from the copy of the page.

To be successful at CPM advertising, you have to be able to capture someone’s attention to the point that they click your ad instead of continuing on with whatever they were doing. You have to snap them out of a zone to get them to click. Since you’re not paying for clicks regardless, you’re paying for views, try to get as many clicks as possible. I’ve ran some CRAZY ads on a per impression basis that have done pretty well.

So let’s rinse and repeat.

CPC = detailed/exact/targeted CPM = broader/edgy/controversial (designed to get mass clicks)

I’m not at all saying you should take your edgy CPM ad and put it on ANY site just because it gets good clickthroughs. You should still be running it on sites that are likely to be hangouts of your target prospects, I’m just pointing out that it needs to differ from how you advertise on a per click basis.

FREE Advertising, does it work?

The answer to this is YES!

Of course it works, it’s all a matter of HOW you are advertising, and what method of marketing you are using once you get the click. The best sources of free advertising I’ve found are article submission sites, where you write an article of interest, then put your sig file and a link to your site in the author resource box at the bottom, and then your article gets picked up, used and passed around by others.

And #2, forums and message boards. With this kind of advertising, you really should NOT blatantly advertise. If you’re on a forum where people are in your target market, you’re likely to find posts that you can add to, such as helping someone who has a question, or putting in your two-cents on a post that’s just a discussion.

Again, you can have a sig file with a link to your site, but your posts should never just be an ad. Write good content, be of genuine help to people, and the people who land on that forum page will take notice and often visit your site.

Here are some other great sources of free traffic.

- Your own blog - Community sites, MySpace, Squidoo, Facebook - YouTube (put your URL in your videos)

If you write articles based on what you are selling or the market you are in, and submit them to article directories, copy those same articles and edit them a little, then use them as blog posts at the online communities you belong to, or if you want to take it a step further, recite or discuss the article on video and upload it to YouTube.

I’ve gotten some wild traffic from YouTube before, with just one of my videos generating a lot of free leads daily, just by including a link in the video that goes to my lead capture (squeeze) page.

If you have good marketing in place (squeeze page, autoresponder, follow-up), the major portion of your day could actually be spent with free places to advertise and you could do very well with that alone.

A guy I met in Austin recently revealed that 90% of his traffic, for his multi-million dollar per year information product business, came from articles he either wrote or had written for him, and submitted to article directories - an average of 2 or more articles submitted per day.

If he can do that and generate enough FREE traffic to build a $3 Million per year business, don’t you think you should give more consideration to the Web 2.0 strategies that are free AND work well, and will provide you with traffic for a long time to come?

The key to making this work for you is to come up with a game plan, what you’re going to do every day - and then STICK WITH IT. And ALWAYS direct traffic into your main marketing funnel.

It takes time for this kind of advertising to work, but as more and more of your articles and blog posts get spread around the Internet by others, your site will turn into a HUB of traffic. That’s what you want to happen!
